Sandy Point Beach

Practically overnight it went from 85˚ and sunny, to 65˚ and rainy. I don’t think that anyone in Boise was prepared for this drastic change. Luckily for us, it did warm up slightly before returning back to the chills of October. This past weekend some of my friends and I decided to take advantage of the fleeting summer weather and check out a popular Boise spot, Sandy Point Beach.

Sandy Point Beach is a more rocky than sandy shore located in Lucky Peak State Park. Lucky Peak is located just 8 miles outside of Boise. In the summer it hosts all kinds of activities from boating and swimming, to biking and disc golf. Due to its close proximity, it us a popular spot for families and young people alike.

When my friends and I showed up to Sandy Point we were surprised to find ourselves as the only people taking advantage of the water. There were couples picnicking in the park, however no one ventured to the water. We set up camp on the shore and laid in the sun, taking in the last few rays of warmth for what we are thinking will be many months. The water was a bit chilly, but completely worth it. We blew up our big swan inflatable and even ventured out to the fountain found in the water.

Sandy Point was a beautiful and relaxing place to spend our day. Access into the park was completely free, however I think they may have a small fee in the summer. Most likely it will not see many swimsuits for quite a few months, however I would keep it in the back of your mind for when the sun decides to reappear next summer ;)
